Why do I always feel like I have nothing to wear no matter how many items I have in my closet? Why do I spend so much money on occasion pieces when I could invest in forever items? Why do I feel uninspired with my personal style? These are questions we ask ourselves far too often. It's time we start changing this inner dialogue that leaves us looking for the next new thing instead of wearing what we already have (and once were drawn to).

Developing personal style is as simple as wearing your clothes!!!! Think of your closet as a pantry full of ingredients. Any good cook has multipurpose ingredients that they use over and over and over. The aim is to not have a wardrobe made up of random ingredients, but a closet that can be versatile enough to make an endless combination of outfits. Once your pantry is full of the essentials, you can garnish with accessories, shapes, and fabrics. 2025 is the year we start wearing our clothes and develop a keen eye for multipurpose pieces that we will reach for time after time.

6 Winter Basics, 12 Ways

Wool Coat

There’s something about a wool coat that instantly makes you look more chic and put together. You can throw it on over the most wretched-looking outfit and call it a day to go run and get a coffee. Or you can dress it up and make it look really sophisticated. This black number is 100% wool from Jones New York, and I got it on eBay. There’s no use in spending over $300 on a coat that is as timeless as this piece. Depop and eBay are full of good options.

Trench

A trench coat is a great piece to have in your winter wardrobe in general. It’s water resistant, tactical, and very versatile.

Leather Jacket

This jacket is going to the grave with me. I wear it all year round and it is the perfect shape. A leather jacket has a way of introducing a little bit of spunk and edge into a basic outfit. I can’t wait to pair it with an all black fit in Berlin!

Long Skirts

I find winter outfits a bit boring. I can only reach for a black trouser or a good pair of jeans a few times in a week until I'm truly uninspired. However, I’ve recently been drawn to the whole maxi skirt look. I think long skirts are essential for those cutie winter outfits. You can wear leggings or tights layered underneath for an extra layer of warmth. Play around with fabrics and textures like wool, pleats, bow detailing, and cotton.

Knitwear

All of these outfits include a good knit. Try to steer away from polyester and nylon. Look for cashmere, wool, or 100% cotton. These fabrics are going to be in your wardrobe way longer and be warmer on your body.

Good Denim

Enough said!
